Splash Island is open every day rain or shine. Once guests pay and enter the facility, no refunds will be issued. In the event of dangerous weather conditions, Splash Island will temporarily close and remain closed for ONE HALF HOUR AFTER the danger weather conditions pass, per Indiana code (see below).
Our protocol follows the resources that most agencies reference including the National Swimming Pool Foundation, the Indiana State Department of Heath, and the National lightning Safety Institute . The NLSI recommendation of 30 minutes after the last sign of thunder or lightning is the standard delay until activities may be resumed. The swimming industry has not come to a consensus about indoor pools but has an advisory to include indoor with several states adopting it as code
We specifically do enforce the half hour delay on all of our pools regardless of indoor or out until after the last sign of thunder or lightning. We prefer to err on the side of keeping our guests safe.
