PFT 100 Years of Service Celebration

Tuesday, May 9, 2023

The busiest fire department in the County, has grown significantly since 1923. In 1923, Plainfield had a population of about 1,400 people and was bordered roughly by the Vandalia Railroad to the north, Avon Avenue to the east, South Street to the south, and White Lick Creek to the West. On May 7, 1923, an out-of-control fire located at 117 South Vine Street, that impacted 11 structures, would cause the Town to invest in a Model-TT Ford fire truck. Chief Edward Milam and Assistant Chief Carlos Swinford organized the first Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department. Now, 100 years later, we celebrate how far the Plainfield Fire Territory has come and accomplished!
Come out to Friendship Gardens to help us wish the Plainfield Fire Territory a Happy 100 Years! You'll also have the opportunity to learn about the department's extensive history, while viewing artifacts from the past.
