- Utility Billing
For your convenience, the town maintains a utility payment drop box located in the parking lot of the Municipal Building. It is available 24 hours a day. The utility billing clerks empty it once every morning at the beginning of the day and process payments. Please be aware that anything left in the drop box will likely be processed the next day, not the day you place it in the box.
If you are concerned about late payment or a possible utility shut off, please come in the building and pay at the window rather than use the drop box. You may also pay with a valid credit card using our online utility bill payment system.
Summer Sewer Rate Program
The Town of Plainfield Town Council has approved the 2023 Summer Sewer Rate Program. The Summer Sewer Rate program establishes a flat rate monthly fee for in-town and out-of-town residents. For 2023, the summer sewer rate will take effect from June 10th until October 10th. Due to billing processes, the first bill the summer sewer rate will be included in will be the July 28th dated bill.
The summer value for single family residential customers categorized by the Town as in town will be the unmetered rate of $42.27 per month for the year 2023. The summer value for single family residential customers categorized by the Town as out of town will be the unmetered rate of $48.53 per month for the year 2023.
The deadline to apply for this 2023 program is June 15, 2023, applications will not be accepted after this date. To apply, fill out an application, include a $50 application fee and send via mail to 206 W. Main Street, Plainfield, IN 46168. If dropping your application in the Government Center Drop-Box, please do not include cash.

New Billing Cycle
In an effort to create more efficient billing system for our constituents, the Utility Billing Department will soon be making some small changes to your billing statements that you may notice. We will be changing our read dates from the 18th of the month through the 18th of the following month, to the 10th of the month through the 10th of the following month. This will allow for more timely billing and fewer billing errors. During this transition, customers will experience one shorter than normal billing cycle on their next statement, which will show read dates of 2/18/23 – 3/10/23, after that the read dates will stabilize and reflect an average of 30 days of usage.
Along with this change, our Bill Date will now reflect the date bills will typically be generated. We feel this will provide a more accurate picture of the billing cycle for our residents. These changes will not affect any customer charges or rates, theyare simply to create a more efficient system going forward.
