Jim Spencer has been Judge of the Plainfield Town Court since 1989 and has been re-elected for 4-year terms in 1991, 1995, 1999, 2003 and 2007. Jim is a licensed attorney, a licensed professional engineer and a certified mediator in Indiana. As a practicing attorney, Jim focuses on the corporate, business and commercial areas of the law. Jim has served as a U.S. Army officer in the Army Corps of Engineers, an outside counsel for Delco Electronics Corporation and as Assistant General Counsel for AMAX Coal Industries, Inc.

Judge Spencer is an active member of the Plainfield community. He has served as president of the Plainfield Optimist Club, and president and board member of the White Lick Heritage Community Foundation. He has a master's degree in engineering from the University of Illinois and a juris doctor degree from Southern Illinois University School of Law.
