Q: What do I need to do to get my vehicle released to me?

Vehicle releases are only issued during business hours (M-F from 8:30 to 5:00)
Vehicles can only be released to the registered owner! If the registered owner is not present, a notarized release letter is needed from the owner releasing it to the person present.
Proof of ownership must be present (i.e., title/purchase paperwork).
Current registration for vehicle being released.
Current proof of insurance for vehicle being released. (policy paperwork or insurance card-registration DOES NOT count for proof of insurance).
Valid driver's license.
**NOTE** Two (2) valid drivers are required in certain cases. Such as if the registered owner of the vehicle does not have a valid driver's license. Other exceptions may also apply.
Vehicles impounded by the Plainfield Police Department are stored at Whitlows Towing Service, located at 10659 E County Road 251 S. Go to US 40, turn south on Six Points Road to Co. Road 251, turn east to the storage lot. Vehicles are released with the proper paperwork from the police headquarters during business hours only (M-F 8-4).

Any person required to submit state or federal fingerprint cards may bring those cards to the police headquarters during business hours for processing at no charge. Please allow 20-30 minutes.
