Q: What do I need to do to get a handgun permit?

A:

  1. You need a money order for the state fee. The money order is made out to the "State of Indiana".
  2. You will need cash, check, or money order for the local filing fee. There are new options, please select the one you are wanting.

  3. Applications are taken Monday - Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The application process takes approximately 15 minutes, at which time you will be finger printed. Please allow time for this.
  4. Your residence must be within Plainfield Police Department's jurisdiction. (Having a Plainfield mailing address does not necessarily mean you are within our jurisdiction.)
  5. The address on your driver's license must be where you currently reside.

Any person required to submit state or federal fingerprint cards may bring those cards to the police headquarters during business hours for processing at no charge. Please allow 20-30 minutes.
