To kick off Historic Preservation Month, the Friends of the Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library will once again offer a tour of six historic Plainfield homes and structures. The tour will take place on Saturday, May 5 from 1 to 5 p.m. and is sponsored by Hendricks Regional Health and Lincoln Bank. All tour sites are located in downtown Plainfield.
Included in this special event are the Strafford- Rediger home, the Plainfield Masonic Temple, the Hale home, the Gamble home and studio, the Ellis home, and the Plainfield interurban depot. Tour sites date from the mid-19th to the mid-20th centuries and have all been chosen for their architectural and/or historical significance. Several of the homes have interesting family antiques and collectibles.
The historic homes and structures tour is a fund raiser for the Friends of the Library and is held biennially.
Tickets are $10 each and are available at the Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library through 5 p.m. Friday, May 4. On May 5, tour day, tickets will be available for $12 each at the library and at tour sites.
Sponsors of the event are Hendricks Regional Health and Lincoln Bank.

Construction to Start Soon on Reeves Road
The Town expects to start construction soon on Reeves Road from the new high
school site to Center Street. The project, which will widen Reeves to three
lanes (the center lane will be a turn lane) will start around the first of
April.
"There will be some closures involved for thru traffic," said Don McGillem,
Transportation Director for the Town of Plainfield. "There will also be some
restrictions on Center Street where we will be building the roundabout on
Center. At all times we will maintain two lanes of traffic north/south on
Center, but we?ll be building the west half first, then switch traffic to the
new side and build the east half. All work is expected to be completed by
November of this year to provide for full traffic flow."
McGillem said that no construction work will be started on the Hadley Road
roundabout until after Reeves Road is completely open.
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will soon be closing Stanley
Road between Southfield Drive and S.R. 267 in order to replace the bridge over
Clarks Creek, McGillem added. The new bridge and the west approach at the
Stanley/S.R. 267 intersection will be built with five lanes in order to match
up with the section on the west side of 267. Stanley Road will then taper back
to two lanes around the entrance to the Stafford Pointe Apartments. The work
is expected to close Stanley for about two months, he said.
Other restrictions on the S.R. 267 project include the west approach for
Hadley Road, which is down to two lanes going east. McGillem advises that
INDOT will be reconstructing the southern half of the Hadley Road west
approach first. Pavement removal has already begun. Once the southern half is
done, INDOT will switch traffic over and build the northern half. McGillem
said there will probably be restrictions on Hadley Road for the next couple of
months.
April 15th Deadline on Summer Sewer Rates
Just a reminder that residents have only until April 15 to sign up for summer
sewer rates, so now is the time to get into the Town Hall and register!
The special rate, an unmetered $25.20/ month, applies to single family
residential sewer service only and is available for a nonrefundable $50
application fee. Rates are good from the June billing through the October
billing. This rate does not apply to sewer service for any premises used
wholly or in part as commercial, industrial, or multi-family (two units or
more) property.

Spring Fling Moves to May
This Year's Race to be a 10K
The 17th running of Plainfield's Spring Fling will occur this year
on May 26th and will become a 10K race, instead of the 15K it has
been for several years. Organizer Steve Huckstep said trying to arrange the
race around other events is the reason for the move.
"In previous years we've tried to schedule the Spring Fling as a training race
for the 500 Festival's Mini-Marathon, but there are so many other, bigger
training events and other races scheduled, it's impossible to find a date," he
said. "So we decided to move it to back to May, and run it on Memorial Day
weekend. We hope to take advantage of the fact that there will be so many
people in town for the race, and that runners may be looking for something to
do."
Registration should be made in advance. Registration forms are available at
the Plainfield Recreation and Aquatic Center. The entry fee prior to May 23
will be $20 and will include a t-shirt. The run will start from the Recreation
Center at approximately 8 a.m. and will use the Town's greenways systems.
Registration packet pickup will be between 6:30 and 7:45 a.m. the day of the
race. A noncompetitive 5K fitness walk event is also scheduled, and will start
at approximately 8:20. For information, contact the Recreation Center at

Proceeds from the Spring Fling will primarily benefit the Fellowship of
Christian Athletes at Plainfield High School.
