The Plainfield Zoning Ordinance (Article 4.2, F.) allows garage/yard sales at an individual residence up to two times per year for a maximum of three days each between sunrise and sunset.
Before conducting a garage sale you should go to the Municipal Building and register your garage sale (including address, participants, and dates) with the Clerk’s Cashier. Once obtained, you should display the permit on the premises where the garage sale is being held.
Additionally signs are permitted on the property for advertising the garage sales, but several things should be noted about what is not permitted. Any signs shall not exceed 6 square feet, shall not exceed 4’ in height, shall not be located in a public right-of-way, only one sign per street frontage, and any signs shall be up only for the duration of the garage sale. Additionally, PLEASE keep any garage sale signs off of utility poles and street signs. Please help keep Plainfield beautiful and litter free by removing your signs once your sales are over.
