Clarks Creek Bridge on Stafford Road to Reopen Mid-March

The Clarks Creek Bridge along Stafford Road has closed for repair work for three weeks beginning the week of February 27. Expected re-opening would be on or before the week of March 19. Traffic has been diverted to Stanley Road during that time.

Bridge work has been underway since January with road restrictions narrowed to one lane in each direction. Hendricks County, which is responsible for maintain- ing bridges, has had their repair crews fix- ing problems that exist on the east pier of the bridge. A new concrete foundation has been poured around the bottom of the pier.

Most of the work has been done while maintaining traffic, but once the county started to work on the eastern approach concrete slab, they had to shut down the bridge. Signs are up alerting drivers to use South Center Street, Stanley Road, and Quaker Boulevard as the preferred alternative route.

Plainfield Fire Territory Station 123 Opens

Residents and businesses in the Town of Plainfield and Guilford Township are now being served by a new fire station. Plainfield Fire Territory has opened Station 123 at 400 Airtech Parkway in the warehouse district. A Medic crew of two people started at the station on December 28, 2011 and was joined on January 20 of this year by a Battalion Chief and Ladder crew. Staffed by seven to eight firefighters per day for the foreseeable future, the station will eventually have a staff of eleven firefighters. Built-in capacity is for fifteen, however, which allows for extra staff when operating under emergency circumstances such as flooding or inclement weather.

The station also serves as a training center. A high tech training room with the latest technology has been incorporated into the building. It enables firefighters to train for confined spaces, such as manhole and sewer pipe situations, and includes a three-story training tower designed for rope rescue, ladder, standpipe and general firefighter training. Two indoor training mezzanines allow for rope and ladder training. The station encompasses over 22,000 square feet.

Plainfield Fire Territory built the station to handle the present day demand for service with an eye on future growth along the Ronald Reagan Parkway. State of the art green technology was incorporated into the station as well, including geothermal heating, energy efficient lighting, and general design.
